Why we love this cruise line
Silversea is widely regarded as one of the world’s premier luxury cruise lines, offering exciting and adventurous voyages on a fleet of intimate yet spacious ships, each of which has been intricately designed and elegantly furnished to provide the most comfortable and enjoyable guest experience possible. All of the ships have astonishingly low guest-to-space ratios, with some offering more space per passenger than any other cruise ship. On a typical day, you can lounge by the pool, go shopping at the Boutiques, enjoy international cuisine in The Restaurant and top the night off with a high-quality entertainment show. Silversea has partnered with illustrious hoteliers and restaurateurs Relais & Châteaux to bring their exquisite fine dining experiences to the seas.
What we love most about this cruise line is that it prides itself on being luxurious and comfortable without being too grand or exaggerated. Simplicity is the key here, as complete luxury is not offered in massive cruise ships with thousands of passengers, but mid-sized ships that offer a more personal touch. Each ship boasts impressively low guest-to-staff ratios, with nearly one crewmember for every passenger, giving everyone great opportunities to befriend one another and form close bonds while onboard.
Another plus is that all of the cruises are all-inclusive, meaning that you don’t have to worry about money while onboard. You can enjoy complimentary drinks, round-the-clock room service, fine dining in the restaurants and even a professional butler service, with your every whim catered to. You also don’t have to worry about paying gratuities as that is covered in your cruise fare. This special aspect invites you to relax and not worry about money, while making the most of cruises that are most definitely worth every penny.
Onboard every Silversea ship you will find an abundance of things to do to keep you occupied while on your way to exciting destinations. There are activities for everyone, whether you want to try something stimulating and fun or simply wish to unwind and let the world pass by.
If the sun is shining, head to the pool deck to catch some rays or enjoy a nice soak in the pool. You can also join others for an exciting game of water volleyball or have a relaxing game of shuffleboard. Those who have a head for heights can head to the Observation Deck for amazing panoramic views of the area the ship is in and then relax in comfortable seats and board games in the Observation Lounge.
In the boutiques you can purchase souvenirs for loved ones back home or you can browse through the latest fashions, aromatic perfumes and Silversea logo merchandise to find that perfect gift for yourself. Head to the Internet café to keep in touch with those back home and share photos and videos of your cruise so far. If you want to watch movies in your stateroom, you need only head to the library, whose collection is so vast that you will never be without something to read.
If you’re feeling lucky, you can head to the casino and try your hand at a range of classic casino games. In the card room, you can compete in bridge tournaments or learn how to play many different card games in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Bars & Clubs
The bars on each of the Silversea ships offer cosy and friendly spaces where you can enjoy delicious drinks and good company. Centrally located in the lobby area is The Bar, where you can grab drinks, mingle with fellow passengers, have a dance on the dance floor and listen to live music. It is open throughout the day and also serves tapas and coffee.
For a more refined drinking experience, head to the Connoisseur’s Corner, where you can purchase cigars and enjoy refreshing cognacs and other quality drinks. The venue is handsomely furnished with wood panelling creating a comfortable and sophisticated atmosphere. At the Pool Bar and Grill you can grab a refreshing drink to cool off with after a long soak in the pool or have a tasty cocktail to accompany a light lunch. Exclusively onboard Silver Galapagos is the Piano Bar, where you can listen to live piano music while enjoying an enticing array of tasty drinks.
Silversea Cruises has partnered with the renowned Grands Chefs Relais & Châteaux to ensure culinary excellence throughout all the restaurants on each and every Silversea ship. Food is an especially important staple of Italian culture and Silversea, with its deep Italian roots, honors this connection by continuously presenting the finest culinary experiences at sea.
One of the most prestigious restaurants is Le Champagne, the only restaurant by Relais & Châteaux, where you can choose from a menu that constantly changes to showcase the cuisine of many different destinations on your itinerary, boasting regionally inspired dishes and locally sourced ingredients. Accompanying your meal is a selection of fine wines from across the world.
For a more relaxed dining experience, you need only head to The Restaurant, the ship’s main dining room where you choose where you sit, when you dine and who you dine with. The cuisine is contemporary, international and expertly prepared. Over at La Terrazza you can eat to your heart’s content at buffet breakfasts and lunches then enjoy classic Italian cuisine in the evening. At the Pool Bar and Grill you can enjoy tasty oven-fresh pizzas and light snacks, as well as a refreshing drink to wash it all down with. Exclusive to the Silver Spirit are the Seishin Restaurant, where delectable Asian cuisine awaits you, and the Stars Supper Club, where you can enjoy modern takes on classic dishes in an Art Deco-inspired setting.
Onboard every Silversea ship you will find many different entertainment offerings with something for everyone, though note that offerings vary from ship to ship.
The Show Lounge is where most nightly entertainment takes place. Here you can find a broad array of entertainment, from movie screenings and classical music concerts to cultural shows and full-scale musical productions, as well as a few special events. During the day you can listen to talks about destinations on your itinerary and learn some new facts in lectures covering a range of topics. In the evening you can head to the Panorama Lounge and dance along to live music played by the DJ, whilst taking in the beautiful panoramic views of the destination you’re at. Exclusively onboard Silver Explorer is The Theatre, where you can listen to a series of talks and lectures given by experts about exploration adventures and the nature and wildlife of the area you’re in.
Health & Fitness
Silversea understands the importance of keeping fit, healthy and refreshed while at sea and so there are many high-quality facilities designed for exactly those purposes.
To make sure everyone can keep up with their fitness regime or start a brand new one, the fitness center is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment and has a broad range of classes on offer. You can relax in a yoga class, practice Pilates or work up a sweat in a circuit training class. The expert staff are on hand to help you devise a fitness programme that is suitable for you.
After a productive work-out session, you can let yourself unwind and be pampered in the spa, which has many different treatments on offer, each of which is guaranteed to leave you feeling refreshed and thoroughly relaxed. You can treat yourself to a massage, a teeth whitening session, an anti-aging facial or even a full body wrap. The professional staff can cater to everyone’s needs and will work closely with you to devise a personalised wellness regime; people with medical concerns such as arthritis and cellulite can have specially tailored treatments that are just as comfortable and relaxing as all others.
If you fancy treating yourself to a new look, you need only head to the beauty salon, where both men and women can choose from a full range of salon services, from manicures and pedicures to hair treatments and new hairstyles.
In order to purchase and consume alcohol onboard, guests must be at least 21 years of age. Silversea reserves the right not to serve alcohol to anyone thought to be under the influence or a threat to the health and safety of other passengers and Silversea employees.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or supervising guardian over the age of 21 staying in the same or a connecting suite. If the adult accompanying the child is not their parent, a parental consent guardianship form needs to be signed by a parent or guardian and presented to Silversea prior to sailing. Silversea ships do not provide any entertainment programmes, care facilities or supervision services for children.
Silversea recommends that all guests wear casual resort wear during the day both on the ship and ashore. This dress code simply consists of sports outfits typically worn in resorts, with flat or low-heeled shoes. During the evening, there are three different dress codes: informal, formal and casual. The following items of clothing are appropriate for casual evenings: slacks, sports outfits and open-neck shirts. On informal evenings, it is recommended that men wear jackets, with the tie optional, while women should wear trouser suits or dresses. For formal evenings, men should wear dinner jackets, dark suits or tuxedos while women should wear cocktail dresses or evening gowns.
Additionally on formal nights, those who dine in La Terrazza may choose to wear casually elegant attire, which consists of jackets with the tie optional for men and dresses or trouser suits for women. After dinner, public spaces are open for entertainment, cocktails and post-dinner drinks.
The number of casual, informal and formal nights depends on the length of the cruise. The chart below is a standard guide, though please note that this is subject to change and full details will be provided in your cruise documents.
|Cruise Length||Casual ||Informal ||Formal|
It is also recommended that you bring a pair of comfortable
and sturdy walking shoes for land-based activities and shoreside explorations.
You should have extra layers of clothing ready for different climates. For
excursions that visit religious sites such as churches and mosques, note that
appropriate attire must be worn; those wearing shorts, skirts above the knee or
women with bare shoulders run the risk of not being allowed in such sites. Ensure
you double check with the Tour Desk prior to departing for tours.
Infants must be at least six months of age by the first day of the cruise in order to be allowed to sail. Silversea requires that prior notification in the form of a signed waiver must be given about all infants coming on board that are between the ages of 6 months and one year. Silversea may also restrict the number of children under the age of 3 on its cruises.
Note that all children must be at least one year of age in order to sail on the Silver Explorer. Children must be at least 6 years of age in order to board a Zodiac. An adult guardian or parent needs to remain with any children under 6 during Zodiac excursions as there are no childcare services on board. This ship does not supply rollaway beds or cribs, nor does it supply rubber boots in children’s sizes.
Silversea will not accept pregnant women who have entered their 24th week of pregnancy. Expectant mothers are expected to supply Silversea Cruises with a medical certificate at the time of booking confirming that they will be fit enough to travel at the time of the cruise. Silversea will not be held responsible or accountable for any complications whatsoever incurred throughout the cruise or after the end of the cruise. Please note that airlines may have different policies on pregnancy so make sure you are fully aware of them prior to travelling.
Smoking is expressly forbidden in all staterooms, stateroom verandas and most public areas. Smoking pipes, cigars and cigarettes is, however, permitted only in designated areas. These include the Connoisseur’s Corner, as well as special outdoor seating areas in the Panorama Lounge, the Pool Bar and certain parts of the outdoor decks. There is also an outdoor smoking area outside La Terrazza, however, only cigarette smoking is permitted there.
All onboard gratuities are covered in your cruise fare. Silversea staff will never expect gratuities.
Wi-Fi is available in all guest rooms and at a number of hotspots located throughout each ship. You can also find computers with Internet access in the Internet Café. Please note that Internet access might not be available at all times due to the difficulty of maintaining satellite connections while at sea. Internet service is very often disrupted in the Arctic. For the entire duration of all cruises to and from Svalbard, there will be no Internet service available to guests, though it will be accessible in the case of an emergency.
There is a charge for using the Internet, which is the same no matter where on the ship you use it. All charges incurred are added to your onboard account. The rates are in US Dollars and are as follows:
